ATLANTA – The 2008 Designer Showcase House has been selected! It is located at 3750 Tuxedo Road in the prestigious and historic Tuxedo Park – Atlanta. The house is represented for sale by Dorsey Alston and owner-agent Mark Bhaggan.
HLP architects have created a Georgian Manor House that is styled after 18th century architecture. Although Georgian architecture is English in origin, it borrows extensively from the classical era of Greece and Rome. One of the main features is the usage of columns.
When you arrive at the house, you are greeted by an enormous facade that is reminiscent of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home. The portico, that is part of the main entrance to the house, is supported by four Corinthian columns. Windows flanking the main entrance have Ionic columns on either side.
The most unique room in the house is the Grand Salon, which has been designed to reflect a Roman forum. It’s an elaborate interior sunroom of enormous size – 60 feet long – which allows for the seating arrangement of three to four groups. Along the interior wall, are arched openings supported by Ionic columns. These columns support the open hallway of the second floor. The columns from downstairs extend upwards and are replaced along the exterior hallway with twin Corinthian columns. Downstairs, opposite the Ionic columns, the doors open to the backyard where cascading steps lead down to a reflecting pool surrounded by a woodland setting.
Other unique features of the house include: An elliptical dining room with a domed shaped ceiling. The master suite has two fireplaces; one in the bedroom and an open fireplace between the bath and shower in the bathroom.
