ATLANTA – Family, friends and admirers of legal giant Griffin Bell, who dies this week at the age of 90, gathered recently at a reception to celebrate the release of his book “Footnotes to History: A Primer on the American Political Character.” The book, a compilation of excerpts from speeches and papers written during Bell’s lengthy and illustrious career as a judge, U.S. attorney general, presidential legal adviser and King & Spalding senior partner, was edited by John Cole of Mercer University Press. Sponsored by Dorsey Alston, Realtors, the reception was hosted by Bell’s grandchildren Griffin Bell III and Katherine Bell McClure, a Dorsey Alston agent, at the Grey Parrot Gallery and Bookstore in Buckhead. Gusts in attendance included Bill Lummus, Lem Hewes, Margaret and Tom Hall, Mary Close, Bob Hicks, Alice Brown and Dorsey Alston Realtors’ Jody Abstance, Spalding White, Anne Morris and Jody Weatherly.
