Chamber of Commerce types often tout the airport, probusiness governments and the low cost of living when selling metropolitan Atlanta.
Often overlooked is the region’s principal asset: the neighborhoods.
Each month, we’ll drill down into specific Atlanta area neighborhoods, looking at what makes them unique and why people choose to live in them. This week, the neighborhood spotlight falls on Indian Hills in East Cobb.
The community features country club amenities, highly rated public schools, low tax rates, and proximity to the city of Atlanta.
Situated in the heart of East Cobb, it is a master-planned golf community of 1,680 homes. The neighborhood features homes on large lots nestled in rolling hills and wooded terrain. About 4,300 residents call Indian Hills home, from young families to retirees. Originally built in the late 1960s, houses range from new construction to complete renovations of and traditional homes and contemporary ranches. Home sizes and prices vary, ranging from the $300,000’s to over $1 million.
The heart of the community is Indian Hills Country Club. This affordable family-oriented, private club features 27 holes of golf, open seven days a week, with extensive practice facilities. There are also eight tennis courts, three swimming pools and a beautiful clubhouse featuring excellent dining and year round social events geared for the entire family.
Most homes in Indian Hills are zoned for highly-rated East Side Elementary School, Dickerson Middle School and Walton Charter High School.
Residents of Indian Hills enjoy a number of locally owned restaurants. Casual favorites include Tijuana Joe’s Cantina, Bamboo China Bistro and Aurelio’s Pizza. Groups enjoy live entertainment and a variety of dishes at Red Sky Tapas, while Common Quarter and Seed are sure to please for higher end dining.
Major retail shopping within 1-2 miles of Indian Hills includes Home Depot, Kohls, Old Navy, TJ Maxx/Homegoods and the upscale shops of the East Cobb Avenue. Favorite grocery stores such as Trader Joes, Sprouts and Whole Foods offer a variety with close proximity.
The golf community is part of the larger East Cobb area which was named Georgia’s Best Place to Live by Money magazine in September 2016.
East Cobb, with 175,890 residents, is an unincorporated community of Cobb County. This year’s list considered all 823 Georgia municipalities with populations between 50,000 and 300,000. Rankings took into consideration predicted job growth, low crime, strong local economies and low taxes. Also considered was accessibility to health care, culture, “strong public schools” and sports.
