Across Peachtree Road from Buckhead Atlanta and a block from the 12-story apartment mid-rise that replaced Henri’s Bakery on Irby Avenue, Cousins Properties announced last week plans to remake the central plaza and exterior streetscape of Buckhead Plaza with public art, a bicycle commuting facility and more.

The plaza is on the southern corner of Peachtree and West Paces Ferry roads. The One Buckhead Plaza office tower on West Paces and the Two Buckhead Plaza office building on Peachtree anchor it. The plaza also includes the popular Umi sushi bar, Chops Lobster Bar and King + Duke. It also has open space and storefronts.

Cousins is expected to begin the year-long construction in March.

All of the hardscapes will be removed but the greenspace will remain the same size, according to the Buckhead Reporter. The goal is to provide better signage and a more appealing atmosphere, along with programmed events to attract patrons.

Meanwhile, across Peachtree, Jamestown Properties has not announced its plans for the Shops Buckhead Atlanta. The company responsible for Ponce City Market and the Westside Provision District on Howell Mill has hinted they will rename the property that was once home to many of Buckhead’s late-night bars.

Jamestown has held several meetings to gather community input on the project, asking residents and office workers what they want. CEO Matt Bronfman is headlining the Buckhead Business Association’s annual luncheon Feb 6 at 103 West.
